Here is the chance We invite highly qualified applications for a Full Professor of Environmental Electrochemistry at one of the world's leading university departments in environmental engineering.

    Responsibilities and qualifications

    Your overall focus will be to strengthen DTU Sustain's competencies within the fields of environmental electrochemistry. Current topics in the group are electrochemical resource recovery and water treatment, electrochemical remediation, electrosynthesis for carbon capture and conversion, cell-material electrochemical interactions, the fate, impacts and removal of microplastics and emerging pollutants in electrochemical processes, electromethanogenesis and power-to-protein, electrochemical sensor for monitoring of water pollutants such as ammonium and volatile fatty acids. Your expertise can contribute to further developing these research topics and potentially add new relevant topics.

    Employment implies original research, education and innovation activities at the highest international level within one or more of the following research themes:

    • Electrochemical remediation, resource recovery and water treatment
    • Integration of electrochemistry with advanced redox processes for water treatment
    • Advanced electrocatalytic material and reactor design
    • Electrosynthesis
    • Electrochemical sensors
    • Electrochemistry of microorganisms

    We expect you to have a solid Danish and/or international platform and a strong background or experience in the topics. Your primary tasks will be, in collaboration with the group, to:

    • Perform research at an international level in the cross-field of water, materials, climate change, energy, and sustainability.
    • Build up, develop, and contribute with new experimental approaches and methods (electrochemical analysis, laboratory experimentation, data interpretation)
    • Contribute to research in the section and with colleagues in related research groups and sections (e.g., advanced materials, circularity and environmental impacts, climate and monitoring)
    • Consolidate the competence of the group in the following fields:
      • Understanding the mechanisms and material-cell interactions for the next generation of environmental electrochemistry
      • Elucidating the impacts, fate and transformation of emerging water pollutants (e.g., microplastic and PFAS) in environmental electrochemical processes and systems.
      • Developing novel and sustainable electrocatalytic technologies for more efficient water treatment, resources and energy recovery, environmental remediation, and carbon conversion and control of GHG emissions in the water context.
      • Fabricating advanced electrocatalytic electrodes and materials
      • Exploiting novel biohybrid catalysts in electrosynthesis
      • Advancing electrochemical sensors research for water quality monitoring
      • Investigating the scalability potential of environmental electrocatalytic technologies.
    • Provide public sector consultancy to inform decision-making with regard to environmental electrochemistry applications.
    • Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects and be a supervisor for PhD students covering a broad range of water related topics.
    • Explore innovation opportunities for sustainable technologies which enable fundamental changes to the way we perform water treatment and manage resources. Specifically we expect you to spearhead our innovation efforts within the area to foster spin-out, collaboration with private sectors and drive innovation projects at national and international levels.
