The research effort includes a diverse staff of theoretical and experimental physicists, hardware designers and software engineers around the world.


The candidate will workwith design andmaintenance of hardware for UHV systems such as molecular beam epitaxy (MBE).An in-depth knowledge of ultra-high vacuum design principles including choice of UHV compatible materials and manufacturing methods is requiredand expertise in crystal growth techniques will be considered favorably.Responsibilities include design and implementation of in-situ tools for synthesis of quantum devices under UHV conditions. Operation,maintenanceand upgrades of multi-chamber MBE systems is also an essential aspect of the position.


Asuccessful candidate must have:

  • 3+ years’ engineering experience
  • An in-depth understanding of mechanical design principles
  • An in-depth understanding andhands-on experience withultra-high vacuum systems
  • Proficiency in CAD and solid modeling(preferablyusingSolidWorks)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Strong desire to work in a collaborative international team - periodic travel to other Microsoft Quantum laboratory sites will be required
  • Preference will be given to candidates with the following additional qualifications:

  • First-hand experience withupgrades andmaintenance ofmolecular beam epitaxy systems
  • An in-depth understanding of tool fabrication and material behavior under extreme conditions

  • Programming experience in data analysis, preferably usingPython
  • An in-depth understanding of tool fabrication and material behavior under extreme conditions
  • Experience with thermal and structural analysis modeling (preferably using COMSOL)
  • PLC Programming experience
