About the Role

IDC Europe is looking for a Research Manager to head up our analytics industry research programme, and to make a significant contribution to custom market consulting projects. The person we seek will contribute thought-leadership on the Analytics and Big Data market, engage with customers and prospects for our products and services, and contribute to IDC global research initiatives. You will work with colleagues researching adjacent areas such as AI, enterprise applications, cloud computing, and digital marketing.

We qualify and define the need for Analytics and Big Data: Those numbers you see quoted in the media about data growth, market shares, and future forecasts? They are most likely from IDC.

We have a loyal client base and a healthy and ongoing work stream with technology vendors and users relating to the marketing, use and governance of business analytics technologies.


Lead and contribute to IDC's European Analytics and Big Data research programme and consulting projects.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Plan a Europe-focused Analytics and Big Data research programme, ensuring that the agenda is pertinent to IDC clients, and creating research documents in a timely manner
  • Deliver and lead custom research projects in analytics and related areas: e.g., authoring white papers, appearing in videos, creating custom data models, and delivering presentations at client events
  • Contribute to and lead the creation of written research deliverables – including market analysis documents, market forecast models and presentations
  • Support IDC’s data modelling and forecasting activities, helping to size, segment and forecast the analytics software market within the European region
  • Support IDC's sales, consulting, and marketing teams by working on project proposals and developing market offerings, creating marketing materials, participating in media interviews, writing blogs etc.
  • Qualifications

    This position calls for an individual with excellent communication, presentation and writing skills, allied to good numeric and analytic skills. We seek a quick and creative thinker with deep curiosity about developments in the IT market, someone who is happy to work as part of a team or alone, depending on project size.

    Specific requirements include:

  • Degree level qualification: BA, BSc or equivalent or higher degree
  • Knowledge of Big Data, Analytics and AI technologies and strategies, ideally together with linked areas such as business applications, IoT, customer experience or digital marketing
  • Relevant job experience in an IT market research or technology/business consulting firm, in the market intelligence or product marketing division of an IT supplier, or with a major technology user company
  • To succeed at IDC, you will need to be:

  • A self-starter, able to work to tight schedules, balancing changing priorities of incoming work with scheduled delivery deadlines
  • Able to synthesize and simply articulate complex concepts and solutions, orally and in writing
  • An excellent team player with strong execution and follow-through skills
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications
  • Fluent in written and verbal English
  • Training in relevant vocational skills, such as presenting, writing and running workshops, is regularly offered by IDC to all staff as well as training in IDC tools and methods relevant to the role.

    The position will be located in one of IDC's major West Europe research centres: London, Frankfurt, Milan, or Copenhagen. Occasional travel will be expected, within Europe and to the US, once current restrictions start to be lifted.
