Al Ain University of Science & Technology

Associate Professor in economy and sustainable energy planning (BB-4DC0B)

Found in: Neuvoo DK

The Department of Planning conducts research and teaching on planning in a broad sense, including technological, economic and social science aspects. Within energy planning, focus is on the transition towards sustainable energy systems and how to support and accommodate the technological transition through an open and inclusive democratic discourse, policies, ownership structures and other framework conditions.

For the specific position, generally, the research areas will be linked to the interdisciplinary study of the interrelationships between energy technology and institutional economics. This concerns both the analysis of how present policy discourses and socio-economic conditions influence the technological development at the energy scene, and the development of democratic inclusive policy discourses, policy scenarios with democratic inclusive organisations and/or institutions and market designs in the rapid transition towards renewable smart energy systems.

The research area also concerns project-related innovative feasibility studies where the purpose is to study radical long-term technological alternatives, and to localize and study the institutional conditions that influence the realization of these technical solutions.

Successful candidates will engage in the public debate.

Teaching and supervision will primarily be in concrete institutional economics and technological development. This will be within the bachelor’s programme in Urban, Energy and Environmental Planning, the master’s programme in Sustainable Energy Planning and Management and the master’s program in Sustainable Cities as well as in other study programmes at the University.

Teaching in the bachelor’s programme is primarily conducted in Danish – though elements can be in English.
